Obviousness and Ignorance

Just because something is obvious doesn’t mean we don’t need a reminder. Too often we assume that people don’t need to hear things that appear obvious to us. But what’s obvious to us might be a blind spot for others. Obviousness is a learning opportunity to teach to the ignorant.

Speaking of ignorance, we often think it’s a bad thing. But we all have ignorance. Think of a popular song, movie, sport, or technology that you might not know about. None of us live a life without ignorance. The key is to be aware of our ignorance and run toward it. Yet, we often fear sounding or looking dumb and instead run away.

What if we stopped assuming things were obvious and stopped running away from our own ignorance? What if we ran toward our ignorance (once we become aware of it) and stop being afraid of how others might view our lack of knowledge? How much better would it be to teach the obvious and learn our ignorance? Let’s lean into both.
