French Fry Analogy

We all have a vice. Mine are French fries. I found myself gobbling down my son's cold, soggy, and bland French fries at a football game recently. Were they the greatest French fries ever? Certainly not. Actually, they were some of the worst. And yet, within a few minutes, they were gone. I remember when there were 3 left, I asked him if he wanted the rest and he shook his head no. So, I cleaned the plate.

Here's the thing with French fries: most of us like them, yet there are a lot of ways to serve them. How do you like your fries? Salt and vinegar? Crispy? Waffle-style? Old-Bay? The list goes on and on.

Humans are no different; we have different tastes as to how we want to be treated. We should take a French fry approach to leading our people. What do they like? How do they want to be treated? How can we adjust our “spice” to ensure we are satisfying their needs? It’s also important that our tastes evolve. We must constantly check in to ensure that the way we are serving them is the way they want to be served. A surprising taste of vinegar when we are expecting simply salt can leave a bad taste in our mouths.

So next time you do eat a French fry, consider your tastes and the tastes of those around you. And if you are around me, make sure you get your fix, because the fries could be gone before you have the opportunity to snag one for yourself.
